1 Janvier 2020

The Folklore Studies Association of Canada/Association canadienne d’ethnologie et de folklore is pleased to announce that its 2020 Annual Meeting will be held at Western University in London, Ontario from May 30 to June 1, in conjunction with the Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences.

In accordance with the Congress theme (https://www.congress2020.ca/about), we invite participants to engage with the idea of “bridging divides” from a folkloristic perspective. How can we as folklorists, along with the groups and cultural expressions we study, shed light on the divisions—social, cultural, racial, ethnic, political, class, etc.—that permeate human experience? How can we contribute to the building of bridges to overcome such divides? We invite paper proposals that address these themes in relation to any aspect of folklore and folklife. Proposals for special panels, discussion sessions, and papers on other subjects related to folklore and ethnology are also welcome. Paper presentations will last 20 minutes with an additional 10 minutes for discussion.

Please send abstracts of 150 words, in English or French, to Dr. Joy Fraser (jfraser@mun.ca) by January 24, 2020. Please note that due to the Congress timeline, this deadline will not be extended.

Conference registration and membership in FSAC/ACEF: All presenters must register for the conference through the Congress portal at https://www.congress2020.ca/register and pay the Congress fees as well as the FSAC/ACEF conference fees. Presenters must also be paid-up members of FSAC/ACEF for 2020. To join or renew your membership, visit https://www.acef-fsac.ulaval.ca/en/join.
